Les isolateurs sont des dispositifs à air propre assurant une séparation totale entre un procédé aseptique (dangereux/non dangereux), le personnel technique et l'environnement de travail. Les isolateurs sont généralement employés dans des applications exigeant un haut niveau de protection contre les contaminants et constituent une alternative aux salles blanches complexes.

Les isolateurs intègrent des systèmes de filtration d'air réduisant considérablement la concentration particulaire. Leur compacité facilite le nettoyage par agents stérilisants gazeux ou vaporeux. Selon l'application, ils fonctionnent en pression positive ou négative : les isolateurs à pression positive protègent le produit des contaminants pour maintenir la stérilité ; les isolateurs à pression négative protègent le personnel et l'environnement en confinant les matières dangereuses.
