Choosing the Right Engineering Control: Laminar Flow, Fume Hood, and Biosafety Cabinet

Following the success of last year’s “Safety First: A Seminar on Laboratory Equipment Handling” held at Berjaya Waterfront Hotel, Esco Micro once again brought its commitment to laboratory safety to the southern region of Malaysia. This year’s seminar, titled “Choosing the Right Engineering Control: Laminar Flow, Fume Hood, and Biosafety Cabinet”, was held on 21st May at Trove Hotel, Johor Bahru.

The event welcomed participants from hospitals, QC laboratories, and universities, with a strong focus on clean air principles and selecting the most suitable engineering control to enhance both safety and efficiency in laboratory settings.

Before diving into the technical content, the day began with a brief company profile presentation, providing attendees an overview of Esco Micro’s global presence, mission, and product range, reinforcing the brand’s credibility and commitment to innovation in laboratory equipment.

This was followed by a comprehensive session on airflow concepts, which set the stage for in-depth discussions on Laminar Flow Cabinets, Fume Hoods, and Biosafety Cabinets. Attendees gained valuable insights into the differences between these types of equipment, their ideal applications, and how to select the correct equipment based on specific laboratory procedures and safety requirements.

A special highlight of the seminar was the demonstration of Certification for Biological Safety Cabinet and Fume Hood, conducted by Esco Malaysia's NSF-certified engineer, Asyraf. This hands-on session emphasized the importance of proper certification and maintenance in ensuring equipment performance and laboratory safety.
