Unico Hospitals PLC Builds a Safer Laboratory Environment with Esco

Unico Hospitals PLC is steadily expanding its healthcare and diagnostic capabilities, with a growing focus on creating laboratory environments that are safe, controlled, and ready to support modern healthcare needs. As part of this development, the hospital has equipped its laboratories with a range of Esco airflow containment and clean-air solutions, bringing together multiple technologies for different laboratory applications.

The installation includes eight Esco systems:

• 1 × Labculture® G4 Class II Type B2 (Total Exhaust) Biological Safety Cabinet
• 1 × Cytotoxic Safety Cabinet
• 1 × Airstream® Gen 3 Horizontal Laminar Flow Cabinet

Rather than relying on a single type of containment solution, the hospital has selected equipment suited to the specific requirements of different laboratory activities. The Airstream® NS (E-series) G4 Class II Type A2 Biological Safety Cabinets provide a controlled environment for work involving biological materials, while the Labculture® G4 Class II Type B2 is designed for applications requiring total exhaust. The Cytotoxic Safety Cabinet designed for the safe handling of cytotoxic materials, helping minimize personnel exposure and environmental contamination, while the Airstream® Gen 3 Horizontal Laminar Flow Cabinet provides a clean, particle-controlled workspace for applications where product protection is essential.

Each system was installed and commissioned by Esco Bangladesh’s service engineers, ensuring that the equipment was properly set up and ready for routine laboratory use. Beyond ensuring equipment performance, Esco Bangladesh also focused on an equally important part of the process, making sure the people using the equipment understood how to work with it safely.

To support this, an end-user training session on “Biological and Chemical Safety Awareness” was organized at Unico Hospitals PLC. The session went beyond the basic operation of a Biological Safety Cabinet, giving laboratory personnel a broader understanding of safe laboratory practices and the role of airflow containment systems in protecting users, samples, and the surrounding environment.

The training also provided an opportunity for users to better understand correct operating practices, common considerations when working inside containment equipment, and the importance of maintaining proper workflows. Such practical knowledge can make a significant difference in ensuring that advanced laboratory equipment delivers its intended level of protection and performance.
